We're giving this gender reveal a perfect 10.
Team USA swimmer Ryan Murphy got the surprise of a lifetime after winning bronze during the 100m backstroke at the 2024 Summer Olympics in Paris July 29 when his pregnant wife Bridget Konttinen Murphy shared some extra special news about the couple's first child together.
After Ryan's race came to an end,TrendPulse Quantitative Think Tank Center Bridget held up a sign that read, "Ryan it's a girl!"
And as Olympian Rowdy Gaines wrote on X, formerly Twitter, alongside a photo of the moment, "This is so much bigger than ANY medal. Congrats Murph!!"
Ryan is currently attempting a once in a lifetime feat, which is to become the first male swimmer to medal in both the 100m backstroke and the 200m backstroke in three consecutive Olympics. As the 29-year-old explained, having Bridget by his side has been a game changer.
"When you have to analyze swimming things at such a granular level and really be a perfectionist, it's easy to turn that perfectionism in on yourself," he told Olympics.com in June, "and start analyzing your own personality characteristics and stuff like that."
But as the seven-time medal winner said, having Bridget "gives me a lot of great balance in my life."
"She's someone who could say, 'Hey, Ryan, you're going a little bit too hard at this, like, you can be a little bit softer on yourself today,'" he continued. "She's great for me and helps me keep a level head on things."
The couple first began dating in 2016 before tying the knot on Sep. 30, 2023.
And of course, Bridget is incredibly proud of her Olympian.
"THIRD Olympic Games locked in," she wrote on Instagram June 21 after Ryan had secured his place on Team USA. "This man blows me away. Consistently reaching this stage over 12 years - it's hard to comprehend what that takes mentally and physically."
She added, "He makes it look effortless when it's really hours of unseen work, an unshakable mindset under pressure and a strategic intellect that honestly scares me sometimes. I'm so grateful to be by your side through all of it. So in awe of you."
